Be There San Diego
Be There San Diego is a coalition of patients, communities, healthcare systems, and others working together to prevent heart attacks and strokes in our community.
70% of heart attacks and strokes can be prevented through healthy lifestyles and appropriate treatment. Be There San Diego is preventing heart attacks and strokes through a multi-faceted education and engagement campaign.
Our goal is for the entire San Diego community to understand and manage risk factors like hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes.
What is the problem
we are working on?
Each year, about 610,000 people die of heart disease.
Every 43 seconds someone in the United States has a heart attack.
Nearly 8 million people in the United States have had a heart attack.
Each year, nearly 130,000 people in the United States die of stroke, accounting for nearly 1 in every 19 deaths. Only heart disease and cancer kill more people.
Stroke is a leading cause of serious long-term disability.
What are we doing about it?
Be There San Diego activates strategic partners to make San Diego a heart attack and stroke free zone!
Patients and Communities: Educating and engaging patients and communities in understanding and taking action to address the risk factors that cause heart attacks and strokes.
Healthcare Teams: Sharing and promoting the use of evidence-based medicine and innovative clinical practices to aggressively treat risk factors for heart attacks and strokes in the clinical setting.
Healthcare System: Identifying and supporting transformations to the healthcare system to ensure every patient receives the preventive care needed to prevent heart attacks and strokes.
Our campaign relies on our network of highly engaged and committed partners throughout San Diego.
